Summary of the first six months of 2014

Cargo handling in ports of Szczecin and Świnoujście has been steadily growing. In comparison with the first six months of the previous year, it increased by 8% to reach 11.4 million tonnes.

The largest increase, by about 25.6%, was recorded in coal handling. Grain also increased significantly by 16.9% in the first six months of 2014 comparing with the same period last year. In the first half year period, better results have been recorded in handling of general cargo – an increase was 11.5%. It is worth emphasizing that better results were achieved in container handling – in the first six months the ports handled 34,298 TEU, which accounts for an increase of 22.9% comparing with the corresponding period of last year. The increase in cargo volume handled has applied to another group of ‘other bulk’ (9.6%).

Cargo handling dropped in the following groups: ore – by 34.4% less than last year, timber less than 41.3% and oil and its products – reduction by 9.7%.

According to the forecast, as of the end of 2014 cargo handling should amount to 22.9 million tonnes, which is going to be similar to last year figures with a slight increasing trend, especially that in 2013 cargo handling was 22.7 million tonnes.
