On 30th June 2009, in St Petersburg, a meeting of the Polish-Russian Committee on Transport-Transit Policy was held. The Szczecin and Swinoujscie Seaports Authority was represented by Wladysław Lisewski, member of board, Bartlomiej Pachis, director, and Andrzej Baron. The meeting was divided into three parts:2. Possibilities for boosting road transport between Poland and the region of St Petersburg. 3. Developing passenger rail transport. During the first part of the meeting, Polish ports authorities presented potential of particular ports and possibilities for servicing cargo traffic from/to St Petersburg. In the case of ports of Szczecin and Swinoujscie, attention was drawn to favourable geographic location on the shortest sea route linking agglomerations of St Petersburg and Berlin with population of several million people. Tomasz Michalski, the leader of the Polish delegation and Director of Department of Transport Policy at the Ministry of Infrastructure, proposed to include specific provisions in the committee documents, contributing to future cooperation between the port of St Petersburg and Polish ports. Additionally, Director Władysław Lisewski proposed to sign a letter of intent on cooperation between Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority and the Port Authority of St Petersburg. These were the first talks within the Polish-Russian Committee on Transport-Transit Policy and proposals made should involve more partners, such as ferry operators, forwarders, shipping companies. |
