In the Szczecin Seaport, a state-of-the-art sulphuric acid terminal is going to be built. On 29th April 2010, at the premises of the Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority, a conditional lease contract was signed (in case of lease in excess of 10 years approval of State Treasure is needed). The contract was signed between the Seaports Authority and KGHM METRACO.
The contract provides for a lease of 10 thousand square meters at Katowicki Peninsula in the port of Szczecin to establish a sulphuric acid storage and handling facility.
Plans include building 3 tanks linked through pipelines with the shore and a vessel loading post. As requested by the investor, the Seaports Authority will modernise the berthing facility along the Katowickie Berth, extend railway track to the site border, provide utilities (power, water, sewage) and build a transformer station. The investment cost to be borne by the Seaports Authority is about PLN 7 million.
A minimum annual capacity declared by the investor is 200 thousand tonnes. The terminal will be capable of servicing a ship with 20 thousand tonnes of acid in one day. The cargo is going to be shipped to clients in South and North America.
- It is a very important investment for us, since it creates a completely new developmnt in the port. We are glad that after considering various locations, such a major investor decided to cooperate with us. It is also important for Bulk Cargo, a company which will provide cargo handling. The new investment is expected to create jobs during the construction phase as well as during operation of the terminal, said Jarosław Siergiej, CEO, the Seaports Authority.
- We considered several locations for the investment, but the proposal extended by Seaports Authority was the most favourable. The terminal is going to be built to the latest technology and ISO 14 000. It is going to be 100% safe and modern facility, said Jacek Rawecki, CEO, KGHM METRACO.
