The Duty Free Zone in the Szczecin Seaport was established by the ruling of the Coucil of Ministers of 23 August 1994 (Journal of Laws No 94 item 447). Its operations started 1 July 1995 on an area of 4.49 hectares. On request from Szczecin and Swinoujscie Seaports Authority SA, on the strength of the Coucil of Ministers rulings of 26 July 2000 (Journal of Laws No 65 item 757) and 08 March 2005 (Journal of Laws No 43 item 416) the area was extended to 19.66 hectares. At this moment the developed area is 11.47 ha.

Storage areas: Open storage yards of 60,000 m2 BENEFITS The Duty Free Zone provides good conditions for conducting business activity:- unlimited time of storing goods without customs approval required, - no need to secure duty and tax fees for the time of storing the goods, - possibility to bring in and take out the goods in parts, - exemption of the stored goods from quantitative and qualitative quotas, - no custom duties for goods damaged, destroyed or eliminated in the DFZ, - all custom duties and taxes charged at leaving the DFZ and permitting the goods to be traded. FORMAL AND LEGAL CONDITIONS FOR STARTING BUSINESS ACTIVITY IN THE DFZ In the duty free zone is allowed every kind of industrial, service, or trade activity. Starting the activity is possible only after a customs authority accepts from the business subject notification about his will to conduct business activity. Detailed conditions are contained in the Finance Minister’s ruling of 16 June 2004. (Journal of Laws No 152, item 1602). Prior to submitting this notification in the Customs Office the subject should obtain from the Administrator a written promise that a lease or tenance contract for the areas or accommodations in which the business activity is to be conducted in the duty free zone will be signed with him. The Duty Free Zone in Szczecin operates twenty-four hours a day.
