Steel products exported all over the world from steel mills in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, and Poland make major general cargo traffic handled in the ports. These are transported via regular shipping lines to West Africa, Western Europe and Scandinavia.

For many years, the ports have been using proved and efficient logistic chains to transport general cargo, such as:

  • paper from Finland to Germany,   papier2.jpg
  • granite blocks from South Africa to Poland,
  • wood products between southern Europe and Scandinavia via ferry terminal in Swinoujscie,
  • steel products from the Czech Republic, Slovakia to other countries in the world, and
  • other transit cargo from such countries as the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, Hungary, Italy and Turkey.

The port infrastructure in the ports of Szczecin and Swinoujscie allows for containerised cargo and other intermodal transport units’ traffic. The port of Szczecin has prepared 800 TEU storage area of 15000 m² for servicing containers. The annual transhipment capacity of the terminal is 50000 TEU.
Szczecin container terminal services also refrigerated containers. Additionally, the terminal is equipped with two modern warehouses of 14700 m².
On the other hand, handling capacity of the container terminal  in Swinoujscie is 50000 TEU.

A feeder service from Hamburg and Bremerhaven has been provided at weekly frequencies to Klaipeda. The development of the feeder line contributes to an increased container handling growing every year. The same applies to the frequency of cruises on the container route to ports in northern and western Norway.

In two ports, modern Border Veterinary Control Points have been established to provide clearance of containers with food and agricultural products. They are cleared in the ports to comply with EU requirements.

For general cargo, the ports offer storage, grouping and packaging of goods in  duty free zones.
