Initiative of the Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority to amend the Vat law

On 9th February 2010, in Warsaw, the Parliamentary Maritime Sector Group held their meeting on the strategy for developing Polish ports. Apart from MPs, the meeting attracted Anna Wypych-Namiotko, Deputy Minister, and Maciej Grabowski, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Finance.

Ports of Szczecin and Świnoujście were represented by Paweł Adamarek, Deputy Chairman, Zbigniew Kamiński, Chief Accountant, and Rafał Zachorski, Member of Stakeholders Council for the Port of Szczecin, as well as chairman of Magemar, a company operating in the port of Szczecin.
Representatives of the Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority provided Konstanty Oświęcimski, Head of the Parliamentary Group, and Maciej Grabowski, Ministry of Finance, with proposed amendments to the VAT Law. The amendments aim at determining a zero VAT rate for services directly related to sea transport and fishing, and auxiliary transport services, such as loading, unloading and storage.
According to attendees of the meeting the proposed changes should improve financial standing of operational companies and service providers in all Polish ports.
