More and more new tracks on the routes leading to the ports of Szczecin and Świnoujście

Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority and PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. are currently implementing an investment aimed at improving rail access to the ports of Szczecin and Świnoujście. So far, nearly 50 km of new tracks have been laid, out of the planned 100 km. The investment will enable the transport of more goods from and to both ports.

Before new tracks are laid, the ground is strengthened under the track and drainage is made to ensure the smooth passage of heavier freight trains. The efficient and safe transport of goods to the port will also be ensured by the reconstruction of three viaducts and a railway bridge over the Parnica River. The contractor is also installing poles and supporting structures for the new catenary. Further traffic control devices, important elements of the track system, responsible for the efficient and safe operation of trains, are being installed.

In the port of Szczecin, the railway infrastructure in Ostrów Grabowski is being rebuilt. Ultimately, 5 km of a new bus will be built. On the other hand, new tracks are being built in the port of Świnoujście in the Euroterminal area. Works on the access tracks to the ports are carried out in stages in order to ensure the ongoing access of rail transport to the quays.

Passengers will also benefit from the investment. It is thanks to the reconstruction of the existing Świnoujście Warszów, Świnoujście Przytór or Lubiewo stations. Access to trains will be easier, new shelters, benches, lighting and signage will appear on the platforms.

The investment will provide access to the ports of longer and heavier trains. There will be 750-meter trains with a load of 221 kN per axle. Freight warehouses will be handled faster and more efficiently. The reloading capacity of the stations in Szczecin and Świnoujście will increase. Ports will accept and clear more cargo, which will increase the competitiveness of freight transport and the potential of ports.
