State-of-the-art terminal to be bulid in Szczecin Seaport

In the Szczecin Seaport, a state-of-the-art sulphuric acid terminal is going to be built. On 29th April 2010, at the premises of the Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority, a conditional lease contract was signed (in case of lease in excess of 10 years approval of State Treasure is needed). The contract was signed between the Seaports Authority and KGHM METRACO.

The contractor to build an LNG berthing facility to be decided soon

On 8th April 2010 the Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority opened bids for the contractor to develop a project of ‘Building an LNG berthing facility in the external basin in Świnoujście’.

Jaroslaw Siergiej, CEO for The Szczecin And Swinoujscie Seaports Authority meets Radoslaw Sikorski

On 14th March 2010, Jarosław Siergiej, the CEO of the Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority, met Radosław Sikorski, the Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs, at the premises of the Ports Authority. During the meeting, J. Siergiej discussed with the Minister measures implemented by the Ports Authority aimed at negotiating with Nord Stream a favourable routing of the gas pipeline on the Baltic Sea bottom at the cross roads of navigation routes leading to Polish ports.  

Proposed amendments to the VAT Law

On 9th February 2010, in Warsaw, the Parliamentary Maritime Sector Group held their meeting on the strategy for developing Polish ports. Apart from MPs, the meeting attracted Anna Wypych-Namiotko, Deputy Minister, and Maciej Grabowski, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Finance.

Tourist season will start in May 2010

Similarly to previous years, in Szczecin tourist season for cruise vessels will start in May 2010. 115 port calls are expected in the port this year. Szczecin for many years has been regular river cruise destination thanks to the favourable inland waterway connection to Western Europe. In 2010 from May to October the river cruise vessels will call 102 times. The vessels visiting Szczecin sail under Swiss, German and French flags.

The first DB train in The Szczecin Seaport

On 20th January 2010, the Szczecin Seaport received the first Deutsche Bahn train (DB). A train set of 25 cars took 1700 tonnes of aluminium in blocks to be delivered to one of Polish steel mills.

A building permit for the Szczecin and Swinoujscie Seaports Authority

On 15th January 2010, Marcin Zydorowicz, the Governor of Zachodniopomorskie Region, approved the technical design of a berth in the External Port of Świnoujście and issued a building permit for the Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority. It is a very important moment for the investor and all stakeholders, authorities and companies involved in developing of the External Port, where the LNG terminal is going to be built.

French group CMA CGM, one of the largest European operators, started a feeder container line: Hamburg-Frederica-Halmstad-Copenhagen-Szczecin. The line is serviced by m/v Elektron of 656 TEU.
