Presentation of ports and companies of the Zachodniopomorskie Region in Wroclaw

A presentation of ‘Ports in Szczecin and Swinoujscie as gateways to the world for the Lower Silesia’ was held in the Radisson Hotel in Wroclaw on 23rd October 2007. The purpose of the presentation was to show the capacity of the ports.

The presentation was organised by the Szczecin and Swinoujscie Seaports Authority in cooperation with the Marshal’s Office of the Lower Silesia Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Andrzej Łoś, the Marshal of the Dolnoslaskie Region, assumed honorary patronage over the event. The presentation intended to promote ports in Szczecin and Swinoujscie and presented logistic and transport solutions for cargo handling in the region.

The region has been enjoying rapid economic growth for several years which is reflected by the number of investments of global and European companies which decided to build their factories and plants in the region.

The Ports of Szczecin and Swinoujscie address their offer especially to those companies. The offer refers to transporting cargo from production plants of the Lower Silesia through ports at the Oder river estuary. Unfortunately at the moment, many companies use much longer and more expensive transport through German ports. During the presentation representatives of ports and operation companies encouraged potential clients to invest in the ports and exercise beneficial conditions of long term lease of area and assistance during the whole investment process. Before the presentation, Mr. Janusz Catewicz, CEO at the Ports Authority, welcomed 60 guests from various companies operating in the Dolnoslaskie Region. Then the floor was taken by Mr. Patryk Wild, Member of Board of the Dolnoslaskie Region, and Mr. Zbigniew Sebastian, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce.
Subsequently, the following companies provided their presentations: ZMPSiS SA on ‘the Position of ports in Szczecin and Swinoujscie with respect to transport needs of the Lower Silesia", Odratrans SA on ‘the Oder river as a logistic connection – opportunities and threats’ and C. Hartwig Szczecin on ‘the Potential of ports of the Oder river for logistic operations’.

Finally the floor was taken by representatives of companies operating within the Szczecin and Swinoujscie Ports, including Mr. Jan Stasiak, Chairman of Board at Fast Terminals Sp. z o.o., Mr. Cezary Sylwestrzak, Chairman of Board at Baltic Forwarding Company Sp. z o.o., and Mr. Bogdan Walczak, Marketing Director at Bulk Cargo Sp. z o.o.

Ports of Szczecin and Swinoujscie are the closest sea ports for the Lower Silesia. Their geographic location is extremely favourable as they are located on the shortest route from Scandinavia to the southern part of Poland and central and southern Europe. Additionally, they are located on the shortest sea route connecting countries of the eastern part of the Baltic region with Germany and the Western Europe.
