The ferry terminal in Świnoujście - progress of modernization works
Construction works are underway at the ferry terminal in Świnoujście. This will be adapted to support intermodal transport, i.e. cargo transport using various means of transport. The investor is the Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority.
The terminal has been changing its shape for two years. There is no trace of the former warehouses, the loading ramp or the equipment of the quays no. 5 and 6. The surface and the base of the previous parking lots and the reinforcement of the bottom at a length of 300 m were also removed.
1,050 metal piles were embedded in the ground for the construction of the new quay. A loading ramp bed and a base for the supporting structure of the flyover were made. The steel structure of the flyover over the railway station in Świnoujście has been installed, and equipment works are underway. There is also a parking lot for 170 trucks and a square associated with the handling of intermodal loads.
Works involving the construction of the quay slab are currently in progress. Works related to the progress of road works, the layout of railway tracks, the assembly of a new and larger loading ramp are underway, dredging works are underway at the new quay, as well as electrical power and teletechnical works. Later this year, it is planned to install a passenger sleeve.
As part of the investment, ZMPSiŚ also purchases specialized equipment: container trucks, tractor units, industrial tablets, radiotelephones and container platforms with accessories.
The investment should be completed next year. As part of the project, ferry berths 5 and 6 are combined into one. As a result, one 294 m long mooring line will be built. The investment will cost PLN 185 million. The project is supported by the EU financial instrument CEF Connecting Europe. (Monika Woźniak-Lewandowska)
