Świnoujście. Environmentally friendly container terminal!

Environmental protection is included in the mission of construction of a deep-water container terminal in Świnoujście. The terminal will be developed according to green terminal concept. The Management Board of Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority ensures that the project will be ecological at every stage: from it’s design, through the stage of implementation of the investment, to the operation of the terminal.

Respect for the environment stands at the base of our plans of the container terminal – emphasizes Krzysztof Urbaś, President of the Management Board of Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority. – This is why we’ve decided e.g. that the project will be entirely implemented on the reclaimed land, that is newly created area on the Pomeranian Gulf, with minimal interference in the land part. We want to keep any environmental impact of the terminal to a minimum. It's supposed to be eco-friendly and modern – these are our priorities!

Green terminal

The terminal design has to be ecological, and provide minimum of environmental impact, in accordance with the green terminal concept. Environmental criteria are part of the offer’s evaluation process in the proceedings announced by the Management Board of the Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority. Parties interested in construction and operation of the terminal have to take them into account in their proposals, which are to be submitted by January 28th 2021.

- Solutions minimizing the impact on flora and fauna will undoubtedly be an advantage of the projects - confirms the President of the Port Authority. "I am referring to every stage of the implementation of the investment, including the subsequent operation of the terminal”.

This environmental approach concerns for example handling equipment which will be used at the terminal, and shall generate minimum level of emissions, preferably shall be powered by the electricity supply.
Shoreside electrical power will also be provided to the ships at berth during their stay at the terminal, to eliminate harmful emissions from the ship’s engine and aggregates.

Natural walls

It is also worth mentioning, that operations of the container terminal does not produce dust or smoke and, in case of the terminal in Świnoujście – due to it’s location minimizes the impact on the nature and environment. It is  also important for residents of the neighbor Warszów district, who will be  separated from the terminal by a natural forest wall.

The railway and road connections – with the Łunowo junction linking the terminal  to the  S3 expressway also bypass residential areas.

We submit offers by January 28, 2021

The Management Board of Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority has created a general framework of an environmentally friendly terminal, which is ultimately intended to achieve handling capacity of minimum 2 million TEU per year. According to this concept, the selected party shall carry out the project, reclaiming the real estate at the Pomeranian Bay. The interested parties must therefore bear in mind that green terminal is included in the mission of that project.

Offers for the concept, construction and operation of the deep-water container terminal in Świnoujście must be submitted by 28 January 2021. Downloadable documents: https://www.port.szczecin.pl/en/offer/deepwater-container-terminal/procedure/
