The importance of the deepwater container terminal in Świnoujście for the HNS system
The General Staff of the Polish Army is interested in the possibility of using the future container terminal in Świnoujście for military purposes. As a result, the terminal would gain the status of dual civil-military use. This issue was the subject of a meeting organized at the seat of the Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority. It was attended by representatives of the Logistics Management Board - P4 of the General Staff of the Polish Army, the Ministry of Infrastructure, the Maritime Office in Szczecin and ZMPSiŚ SA.
The Świnoujście terminal, just like today Hamburg or Bremenhaven, has a chance to become one of the transport HUBs, where apart from the basic reloading activity, troops, equipment and combat assets are also transferred using sea transport.
Location advantages support the widest possible use of the terminal
The container terminal in Świnoujście, due to its location and access advantages, is perfectly suited for its use both for civil and military transport. The future terminal will be located in the external port in Świnoujście, east of the LNG terminal, outside the urbanized area, which will ensure the possibility of isolation and strict protection of the area, as well as minimize the impact on the natural environment and inhabited areas. Additionally - Świnoujście as a base port is located on the route of the Trans-European Transport Network TEN-T as part of the Baltic-Adriatic corridor.
