"Firefighter-28" solemnly accepted into service


The ceremony of raising the flag and the baptism of the "Strażak-28" firefighting vessel took place in the port of Szczecin. The ceremony was attended by invited guests, including the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Grzegorz Witkowski, Members of Parliament Leszek Dobrzyński and Artur Szałabawka and the West Pomeranian Voivode Zbigniew Bogucki.

 

"Strażak-28" is a very modern unit. It was built for the Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority S.A. at the Gdańsk shipyard Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A. It is adapted to the meteorological and hydrographic conditions prevailing in the waters of the southern Baltic Sea. It will provide assistance to ships carrying dangerous cargo by providing fire protection. It will watch over fire safety in the waters of the seaports of Szczecin and Świnoujście and Police.

 

The ship is 29.2 m long and 10.47 m wide. Its design draft is 3.45 m. It develops max. speed up to 12.00 knots. Its bollard pull is 45 tons. It has three water-foam monitors with a value of 1350 m3/h each and two FiFi pumps with parameters of 2700 m3/h each.

Project "Purchase of a firefighting vessel for the Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority Spółka Akcyjna" is co-financed by the European Union from the Cohesion Fund under the Operational Program Infrastructure and Environment. The value of the project is approx. PLN 40.6 million. Co-financing from the European Union approx. PLN 34.5 million.

 

The project is part of a complex project co-financed from EU funds under the Operational Program Infrastructure and Environment 2014-2020: 3.2 Development of maritime transport, inland waterways and multimodal connections. Priority Axis III Development of the TEN-T road network and multimodal transport.

 

"Strażak-28" is the third in the fleet of ZMPSiŚ S.A. Currently, "Strażak-24" is moored in Szczecin, and "Strażak-26" in Świnoujście.

 

Carriers, shipowners and port employees will benefit from the ship's entry into operation. The ports in Szczecin, Świnoujście and Police will be able to accept and handle more ships with dangerous cargo. (Monika Woźniak-Lewandowska)
