January

 

The voivode issues a permit for the demolition of 77 cubature and building structures in the port of Świnoujście on the site of MSR Gryfia, which is to prepare the area for the construction of an installation terminal. Two new cars have expanded the fleet of vehicles of the Port Fire Brigade in the port of Szczecin. The VW T6 Caravelle quartermaster car with operational number 308z56 and the Skoda KODIAQ with operational number 308z91 entered service. Both vehicles, in addition to the existing VW T6 Transporter 308z55 and Skoda Yeti 4x4 308z90, complement the fire brigade fleet. The cars were purchased from the own funds of ZMPSiŚ SA, which includes the Port Fire Brigade.

 

 

A press conference was held in Warsaw. The management boards of the sea ports of Szczecin-Świnoujście, Gdańsk and Gdynia, in the presence of the heads of the Ministry of Infrastructure, summarized the excellent year 2022 for Polish ports. Port operators operating in the ports of Szczecin-Świnoujście, Gdańsk and Gdynia achieved excellent operating results in 2022. As a result, ports closed 2022 with 133.2 million handled cargo, which means that it is an 18 percent better result compared to 2021. Of this result, the Szczecin-Świnoujście port accounts for 27.6 percent.

A conference "Transport, forwarding, logistics based on modern IT tools" organized by Polski PCS was held on board the "Wawel" ferry. For two days, port industry experts discussed the digitization of port operations.

 

On the 103rd anniversary of Poland's wedding to the sea, the Maritime Convention was held in Szczecin. It is an advisory body to the Minister of Infrastructure, composed of specialists from the maritime industry. Its task is, among other things, to provide opinions on the directions of the ministry's activities in the area of maritime economy, recommend initiatives and submit projects that should be addressed by the ministry.

To the LNG Terminal named after The first of eight new gas carriers for transporting liquefied natural gas, chartered by PGNiG from the Orlen Group, arrived at the port of Świnoujście, President Lech Kaczyński.

 

April

 

New port regulations have been in force since April 26, and the parameters of facilities, devices and installations included in the access infrastructure to the ports in Szczecin and Świnoujście will soon be updated. The bulk carrier "Dino", which took a load of wheat from the "Ewa" elevator, submerged to a depth of 9.74 m. After it, other units reached a depth of approximately 9.7 m. These were the bulk carriers "Tomini Pampero" and "Federal Nagara". In mid-April, the new record holder of the port of Szczecin, with a draft of 9.8 m, was the ship "Kujawy" belonging to Polska Żegluga Morska.

The authorities of the Seaports of Gdańsk, Gdynia and Szczecin-Świnoujście together with the operating companies under the common banner of Ports of Poland were present at the logistics fair in Munich. As part of the "Open Days of European Funds", "Strażak-28" opened its deck to visitors.

 

Once again, ZMPSiŚ participated in the "Two hours for the family" campaign.

 

In the port of Świnoujście, at the site of the future installation terminal, demolition works have started on the buildings and structures located there. This fact was announced at a special press conference.

 

Krzysztof Urbaś, president of ZMPSiŚ SA, was awarded the "Badge of Honor for Merits in the Energy Industry" and the "Amber Rudder" - for many years of work for the Polish maritime economy, in particular for his unquestionable contribution to the development of the Polish port industry in Gdynia, Gdańsk, Szczecin and Świnoujście. Over 20 years of involvement in building and operating the economic self-government of the maritime economy, including participation in the work of the National Chamber of Maritime Economy and the Port Customs Commission, where he contributed to the development of the "Collection of practices and principles of cooperation between port trade participants."

The month was marked by numerous maritime congresses and business meetings at which the Port of Maritime and Maritime Affairs was present. It began with the Polish Ports 2030 congress in Gdańsk and ended with the 10th International Maritime Congress in Szczecin.


Moreover, the annual Polish Sea Day took place in Budapest, an event that has been promoting Polish ports for years. In turn, the third edition of the INTERMODAL IN POLAN congress took place in Janów Podlaski. The President of the Municipal Seaport and Silesia Authority, Krzysztof Urbaś, took part in the 3rd Maritime Forum of Radio Gdańsk.

 

The Port Team took part in the NCDC Business Race relay race at Jasne Błonia in Szczecin.

 

ZMPSiŚ received 85 percent co-financing of the total costs of the project titled: "Construction of the transshipment capacity of the sea port in Świnoujście to service the needs of offshore wind energy." The funding comes from the Connecting Europe Facility for 2021-2027 (CEF 2). The total cost of the project is EUR 77.5 million, the co-financing amount is EUR 65.9 million.

Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority SA and the consortium consisting of DEME CONCESSIONS N.V. based in Belgium, and QTERMINALS W.L.L. based in Qatar signed a preliminary agreement for a 30-year lease of land located in the external port in Świnoujście for the financing, construction and operation of the Deepwater Container Terminal. In the offer submitted in the tender procedure, the investor also committed to activities for the local community agreed with the local government of Świnoujście worth at least EUR 5 million.

 

August

 

The West Pomeranian Voivode granted permission to build an installation terminal in Świnoujście to operate offshore wind farms. The first terminal in Poland and one of the most modern terminals in Europe will start operation at the turn of 2024 and 2025. The construction of the terminal consists of two separate investments - the hydrotechnical part, for which the Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority is responsible, and the land part, carried out by ORLEN NEPTUN.

 

September

 

A new port dues system has been introduced. As part of the investment in the Dębicki Canal, a press conference was held on the investment site. During the meeting, information was provided about the progress of modernization works in this area. ZMPSiŚ SA and OT Port Świnoujście extended the lease agreement.


October

 

The conference "Offshore - concessions in Polish maritime areas" was held in Warsaw. Construction works on the Ferry Terminal in Świnoujście have been completed. At a special press conference with the participation of invited guests, including representatives of ferry operators and the partner ports of Ystad and Trelleborg, it was announced that construction works had been completed as part of the project titled: "Adaptation of the infrastructure of the Ferry Terminal in Świnoujście to support intermodal transport."

 

We were at Baltexpo - International Maritime Fair and Conferences at a joint stand with the ports of Gdańsk and Gdynia - PortsOfPoland.

 

On October 10, the container terminal in Świnoujście received an environmental decision.

 

In turn, Orlen is starting the construction of an installation terminal for offshore wind energy in the port of Świnoujście. This is a joint investment of ZMPSiŚ and the Orlen Group. The contractor for the marine part of the terminal will be PORR. The project engineer will be Sweco Polska sp. z o.o. The land part will be implemented by Budimex.

 

A letter of intent was signed at the ZMPSiŚ for the creation of the second agricultural port in Poland, in the port of Świnoujście.

 

The Maritime Economy Forum 2023 was held in Gdynia. Krzysztof Urbaś, president of the management board, represented the ZMPSiŚ seaports panel. President Krzysztof Urbaś was the winner of the honorary award of the National Chamber of Maritime Economy "Amber Rudder 2022". It was awarded for many years of work for the Polish maritime economy, in particular for the unquestionable contribution to the development of the Polish port industry in Gdynia, Gdańsk, Szczecin and Świnoujście. The distinction was presented during the 23rd edition of the "Wspólna Kaczka" maritime business meeting.

 

A modern factory for the production of wind towers will be built in the port of Szczecin. In this case, the Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority and Windar Polska sp. z o.o. signed a preliminary lease agreement in Szczecin for land located on Ostrów Grabowski in the Szczecin port.

 

Blood collection took place at the port for the eighth time in a row. 23 people donated blood. In total, port workers now have 112.68 liters of blood on their account.


November

 

Port Szczecin-Świnoujście at the 10th International Transport and Logistics Fair in Warsaw. We were also present during the Polish Logistics Day event in Prague, where discussions included, among others: on access to Polish ports. This conference with the participation of representatives of the Czech administration and business was organized by the Polish embassy.

 

Representatives of the Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority SA and the Belgian-Qatari consortium DEME CONCESSIONS N.V. and QTERMINALS W.L.L., the investor of the deep-water container terminal, met with Janusz Żmurkiewicz, the president of Świnoujście. During the meeting, President Żmurkiewicz presented general information about the city, the specificity of its main areas and the needs of its inhabitants. The meeting participants will unanimously emphasize the need to develop dialogue between the parties in order to develop mutual trust and strengthen social acceptance of the investment. All the more so because in the offer submitted in the tender procedure, the investor committed to carry out activities for the local community agreed with the local government of Świnoujście worth at least EUR 5 million.

At the Finskie quay in the port of Szczecin, a new STS (ship to shore) crane for unloading containers was officially put into operation, after passing all necessary tests and acceptances. It was bought for PLN 40 million by DB Port Szczecin. The investment involves deepening the Świnoujście-Szczecin waterway, which allows for the reception of ships with a larger tonnage than before. This is the third overhead crane at the Finskie quay. However, this one has larger dimensions and capabilities, i.e. 70 m high and a mass of 1,200 tons. It is able to lift up to 75 tons on a hook or two 20-foot containers with a total weight of 65 tons, enabling the handling of ships with 16 rows of containers or more.

 

Many of the company's employees were honored during the pre-Christmas gala dinner. For special contributions to the achievements and development of the maritime economy, the Minister of Infrastructure awarded the Honorary Badge of Meritorious Sea Worker to Beata Płatkowska and Krzysztof Kwiecień. Moreover, at the request of the management of the Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority SA, 28 people were awarded Gold and Silver Anchors for exemplary and conscientious performance of duties in their professional work, contribution to the development of the port, and shaping a positive image of the company. The awards were presented by the President of the Management Board, Krzysztof Urbaś, and the Vice-President for Infrastructure, Jacek Cichocki.

 

In terms of transshipment, 2023 closes the balance at a level almost analogous to 2022. Port operators operating in the ports of Szczecin and Świnoujście handled 36 million tons of cargo. The largest amounts were energy raw materials, including diesel oil, gas and grain.
